Voyage en Laponie/ Trip to Lapland

Désolé de pas être venue publier plus tôt mais j’avais beaucoup de devoirs à rendre.

Aujourd’hui je vais vous parler de mon voyage en Laponie. Nous sommes partis du 2 au 7 mars. Nous avons donc pris le train de nuit de Lappeenranta jusqu’à Rovaniemi avec un changement à Tikkurila. Le voyage en train a vraiment été long mais le confort est appréciable par rapport aux trains en France. Nous avons décidé de voyager sans couchette car c’était moins cher mais 14h de voyage, on les sent passer sur des sièges. En tout cas le voyage s’est très bien passé et aucun retard (comme d’habitude en Finlande). Nous sommes arrivés à 11h à Rovaniemi, il ne faisait pas vraiment froid 2°, nous avons eu de la chance car il faisait bon pendant tout notre séjour. Après être arrivé, nous sommes allés à notre Guesthouse (Borealis) situé à 200m de la gare donc très pratique. L’hôtesse était charmante, nous a fournis un plan de la ville et nous a donné beaucoup d’informations. Une fois nos bagages déposés, on est allé se balader dans la ville. Je ne vais pas vous cacher qu’on était déçus, on s’attendait à une petite ville chaleureuse et on s’est retrouvé dans une ville grise, froide et étendue. Au revoir le charme de Noël. L’après-midi, nous sommes allés visiter le musée Artikum réputé pour être un très bon musée retraçant l’histoire de la Laponie. Je suis ravie que l’on ait visité car j’ai appris plein de choses. Le musée est immense et regroupe plusieurs départements qui racontent chacun une vie et une histoire : la Laponie, la ville de Rovaniemi pendant la guerre, La faune et la flore en Laponie, les aurores boréales etc. Le soir, nous sommes allés manger le plat typique de Laponie : du renne. On l’a mangé sous forme de kebab, c’était très bon. Le lendemain fut une journée exceptionnelle car on avait réservé un mois plus tôt un safari sur internet. Ils sont venus nous cherché à notre hôtel, ensuite on s’est équipé chez eux (combinaison, chaussettes, chaussures, bonnet, gants). On est arrivé à la ferme des rennes, puis on a choisi notre traîneau avec notre renne et c’est parti pour l’aventure. Une merveilleuse balade au sein de la forêt avec nos amis les rennes. Après je pense une bonne heure de balade, nous sommes arrivés au village du Père Noël. A l’intérieur se trouve une immense galerie avec plein de boutiques souvenirs. Ensuite, il y a le bureau du Père Noël, la poste du Père Noël où vous pouvez envoyer directement vos cartes vers la France. Je ne vais pas vous cacher que je m’attendais à mieux et que j’ai trouvé ce village très touristique. Mais je pense qu’à la période de Noël, cela doit avoir beaucoup plus de charme et que les enfants doivent être ravis. En tout cas, je ne regrette pas ce safari qui nous a coûté 137€ par personne (Lapland Safari). Dans l’après- midi, nous sommes partis à Kittilä, encore plus au nord et à 2h de route en bus. On a choisi cette ville car elle est très proche de la station de ski de Levi et que les prix pour les hôtels sont beaucoup plus abordable qu’à la station (Guesthouse Golden Goose, une jeune femme tient à la maison et elle est vraiment très gentille). Le jeudi, on est donc monté à Levi skier. C’est la plus grande station de Finlande, il y avait un grand soleil, il ne faisait pas trop froid donc conditions optimales pour skier. On a vraiment apprécié cette journée et puis la station est vraiment sympa. Il faut quand même compter 40,50€ pour le forfait et 33€ pour la location de matériel. Nous sommes donc redescendu vendredi dans la journée sur Lappeenranta, nous sommes arrivés chez nous au petit matin.

Ce qu’il faut retenir de ce voyage : il faut vraiment partir en Laponie, pour comprendre ce qu’est la vraie Finlande, de préférence quand il fait vraiment froid (cela doit être beaucoup mieux). Il ne faut pas hésiter à faire plusieurs activités car les villes ne sont pas géniales et il n’y a pas grand-chose à faire. Le musée Artikum est vraiment un très beau musée. Et il ne faut pas avoir peur de passer beaucoup de temps dans les transports.

Sorry for not coming earlier post but I had a lot of homework to make.

Today I'll talk about my trip to Lapland. We left from March 2 to 7. We took the night train from Lappeenranta to Rovaniemi with a change in Tikkurila. The train journey was really long but comfort is appreciable compared to trains in France. We decided to travel without sleeping couch because it was cheaper but 14 hours of travel, we feel them pass on seats. Anyway the trip went well and no late (as usual in Finland). We arrived at 11am in Rovaniemi, it does not really cold 2°, we were lucky because the weather was good for the whole stay. After arriving, we went to our Guesthouse (Borealis) located 200m from the train station so very convenient. The hostess was charming, has provided us with a city map and gave us lots of information. Once deposited our luggage, we went to walk around the city. I will not hide that we were disappointed, we were expecting a small friendly town and we found ourselves in a gray city, cold and extended. Goodbye charm of Christmas. In the afternoon, we visited the museum Arktikum deemed to be a very good museum tracing the history of Lapland. I am delighted that we have visited because I learned a lot. The museum is huge and includes several departments that each tell a story and a life: Lapland, Rovaniemi city during the war, the flora and fauna in Lapland, northern lights etc. In the evening, we went to eat the typical dish of Lapland: reindeer. We ate as kebab, it was very good. The next day was a special day because we had booked a month earlier a safari on the internet. They picked us looked at our hotel, then was equipped home (overalls, socks, shoes, hat, gloves). We arrived at the reindeer farm, then choosing our sledge with our reindeer and go for adventure. A wonderful walk in the forest with our friends the reindeer. I think after a good hour ride, we arrived at the village of Santa Claus. Inside there is a huge gallery with lots of souvenir shops. Then there was the Santa Claus Office, Santa's post where you can send your cards directly to France. I will not hide that I expected better and I found it very touristy village. But I think at Christmas time, it must be much more charming and that children should be thrilled. Anyway, I do not regret this safari which cost € 137 per person (Lapland Safari). In the afternoon, we went to Kittilä, further north and 2 hours away by bus. We chose this city because it is very close to the Levi ski resort and the prices for hotels are much more affordable than the resort (Guesthouse Golden Goose, a young woman stands at home and she is very nice). On Thursday, we went to Levi for skiing. It is the largest resort in Finland, there was a great sun, it was not too cold so optimal conditions for skiing. We really enjoyed the day, and then the station is really nice. You still have to rely € 40.50 for the ski pass and 33 € for equipment rental. So we are back down in the day on Friday Lappeenranta, we arrived home in the early morning.

What to remember this trip: you have to go to Lapland to understand what is the real Finland, preferably when it is really cold (it should be much better). Do not hesitate to do several activities because cities are not great and there is not much to do. The Arktikum museum is really a beautiful museum. And do not be afraid to spend much time in transportation!
